About the Author
Richard Collier is a former Director of the Electronic Engineering Laboratory at the University of Kent, and a former Senior Research Associate and Affiliated Lecturer at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the IET.

A fresh approach to transmission lines

I have well over a dozen books covering transmission lines and waveguides at hand, some of them being quite similar to one another. But as the author suggests in the preface, this one is indeed a bit different.

It is nice to start the book with pulse propagation. There are so many illustrative examples. Also, I could find topics that aren't usually discussed in most other book (such as low-frequency characteristics of transmission lines) and numerous illuminating observations throughout the book.

Regarding Part 3 of the book, Transmission Lines and Photons, I did think photons didn't feature as much as anticipated, as the author himself admits (in Section 7.8). But still those chapters were thought-provoking and I liked them.

Overall, the book is highly readable and shows the author's lasting enthusiasm for the subject. I can recommend it to anybody wishing to learn or already familiar with transmission lines and waveguides.
