Most in depth

and most true to the Word I have ever read in that I do not believe there is any private interpretation or guessing as there is often with other authors. This book while weighty is very clear and easy to read yet it is somewhat difficult to assimilate fully, I believe it is because of the great scope of the subject and its demands (spiritual as well as mental) on the reader rather than any defect of the author. Well worth the substantial effort to read.

the freudian view of man and madness

This is a freudian interpretation of psychopathology - thorough and careful, very well organised (each chapter has a summary of its contents) and presented in a clearly readable way. It's suitable for anyone without much or any background in neither psychoanalysis or psychiatry (indeed, its a excellent place to start learning about both), but serves as much more than a simple introduction, as its lenght also suggests (700+ pages). It's authors relate their psycho-dynamic approach well with the philosophical problems underlying much of the controversies in the mental health field, and though in general remaining true to the strictly freudian way of conceptualizing development and pathology - through the Oedipal complex, fixation points, regression and resolution etc. - they apply these notions with a critical sense and present cautions and elaborations whenever considere it necessary, either by the promtings of philosophy of science (the energy mataphors of libido) or the works of later psychoanalysts. Thus, they begin with a consideration of the mechanistic and teleological aspects both present in Freud's work, and take the latter as the keystone to the presentation of his whole body of conceptions. Which is not to say that the book ignores or overrides the biological side to the picture - quite on the contrary. It's always overtly acknowledged, and at times woven (e.g. the "catecholamine hypothesis", relation of blood-groups to schizophrenia, behavioristic therapies...) into the main line of teleological argumentation, reflecting the flexible and tolerant outlook of its authors, termed biosocial. I found it very informative and interesting both in a professional "strict" sort of way, with its exemplyfing discussions of the (sometimes pages-long) wealth of case histories, but also a pleasure to read due to its cultural and personal "digressions" into the life histories of Freud and his associates, when beneficial to the general discussion of his theories. Can't think of any drawbacks for the moment (of course due to my own lack of expertise and experience in the fields, also).

Make sure to get the 1985 edition, which is updated to consider (not always meet, sometimes polemize, but always note) the criteria of DSM III, and co-authored with J.F. Rychlak, the student of N. Cameron, to considerably revise the original work.

don't leave home without reading it

This is a very good book! It explains the development of a person's personality since infancy. The pathologies that could result from a very dysfunctional upbringing is likewise presented in clear and simple terms that makes it easy to understand. I strongly recommend this book, not only for the students of psychiatry but for anyone who wants to understand what makes up his/her personality!

Readers familiar with Dr. Wayne Dyer know he is laughing joyously from Heaven as his final book is released in the world; this book about Heaven. He loved hearing stories from children especially when they were spiritually motivated. This book is no different.

His good friend and assistant Dee told him about a moment with her son regarding his memory of God and what came before he was born. That singular moment led to this compilation of stories of children from all over the world as their parents/grandparents recall similar moments of child-inspired insight.

This book is a joyous celebration of the innocence and mystery of life. If you as a reader are looking for documented-factually tested scientific proof of an existence beyond this life, you will have to look elsewhere. ENDURING AND ABSOLUTELY TIMELESS

I truly miss the late Wayne Dyer. The world has lost a remarkable soul and teacher. I read his first book ("Your Erroneous Zones") as a young man in the seventies and can, with complete conviction, say it helped me mature faster and become a better person. I also own and have read almost all of the books he has published after his first. Throughout his early years Dyer was a successful psychologist whose main emphasis included getting people to understand that one of life's greatest challenges is to personally accept responsibility for your circumstance in life. (if your life is gonna get better ... it's up to you to change ... and you need to own the problem's causes yourself!) During his last two decades Dyer studied the world's greatest philosophers ... and in the process became one himself. This book is consistent with Dyer's thinking, but deals with an entirely different subject ... the realistic potential of a sentient afterlife through the lucid, inner-eyes of many children's earliest memories. In his uniquely characteristic style Dyer has approached this subject through modern logic, reasoning and has skipped most of the metaphysical hyperbole. This book and its thinking is a fitting conclusion for one of the world's great masters. The collaboration with Dee Garnes is also very helpful.

I couldn't avoid having high expectations from this book. I will say that it has met my expectations, and then some. As I read it I felt transported to another place, another time. I started out skeptical of Wayne Dyer but, over time he won me over. I will miss him.

Combine the ages of these children, the geographic dispersion of their locations, the similarities in their stories and it's good evidence.

Good content, often seems too wordy

I disagree in part with the comments below. This book covers most basic aspects of raster-based modeling. Most GIS books I come across seem to focus on vector format data and concepts. I found this book is a breath of fresh air. And it doesn't limit itself to one particular GIS sofware package and their algorithms when discussing raster abilities. My only negative comments are that it often seems too wordy (although that may be a function of the book layout, it's printed on 8.5 x 11 paper and many pages are single column text only which really appear daunting when looking at them), some subjects could use better, more in-depth coverage with diagrams and figures, and the price.

Raster-based modeling is a rich environment with great potential and I think this book gives a much better introduction than more general GIS books. In addition to this book, I would also recommend books by Joseph K Berry for more advanced raster analysis topics.

Decent text covering Raster usage in GIS applications

If you're interested in working with raster data (that's the pixellated kind, like digital photos or elevation maps) this is a decent introduction and mid-level instructional text. It covers what some of the raster file formats include, some of the algebra and functions you can perform with raster files, and a number of other related topics. It's also a pretty short read, as textbooks go.

We used this book in a class several years ago. It was a little dense, but most text books are. It was quite good, and now that I'm teaching GIS to high school kids, I have refered to it several times in order to help describe a concept or technique.

It's probaly not the best, but it's pretty good for the price.

Jurgen Brunner

Jurgen Brunner is currently working as a game designer and an indie developer in Austria and Germany. You can definitely call him a video game enthusiast, which he has been since the 1980s. Remembering the first gaming sessions on a friend's Amiga 500, he tries to stay as connected as possible to the main goal of every game: fun! He studied game design and music at the University of Applied Sciences in Salzburg, and received his degree in 2010 with the diploma thesis "Jump 'n' Run Evolution". While working as a researcher at the Pervasive experience lab (P.e.l.s) in his former university, he had the privilege of exploring augmented reality and pervasive games as well as Kinect hacks. Jurgen made his way to the professional gaming industry as a game and level designer in 2012. Besides this, he also works on his own indie games. His love and passion for retro graphics, music, and art can be experienced in every new game and in every new song. The greatest success of his indie career so far might be the release of the award winning game Pitiri 1977 on Steam in 2014. Besides working on games, he is also a passionate musician. As well as playing six instruments, Jurgen still tries to spend every free minute on music and sound design, or with his band SaberRider.

An Excellent Introduction to Video Game Design

To a lot of people, video game design seems like the kind of career that's almost impossible to break into. Take me, for example, circa 1994. As a budding video game enthusiast, I wanted nothing more than to become a programmer for Nintendo. Of course, what my 8-year-old counterpart didn't realize at the time was that becoming a game designer for a triple-A company is about as easy as becoming an astronaut. The reality of the situation is that video game design requires a solid background in Computer Science, Mathematics and Art.

This is exactly the kind of background that I didn't have when I was 8 and it's still not the background I have today. Fortunately for me, there's Clickteam Fusion 2.5 and an even better resource that goes along with it: "Getting Started with Clickteam Fusion". Jürgen Brunner, who's a bit of a game enthusiast himself, dispels a myth that a lot of people have about breaking into video game design - that it's impossible to create a game, let alone make one without a background in programming and art.

The only thing that you need to make a game, Brunner asserts, is the drive to see your vision come to life. This starts with a prototype of the game followed by several tests: the alpha phase, closed beta test and open beta test. The light at the end of this tunnel of course is the gold release. This is something that I thought was only reserved for AAA titles. The fact that you can have one for an indie game really excited me when Brunner explained that - and this is where the book starts to get really interesting.

After providing readers with an overview of the game design process, Brunner takes a look at the various tools and resources that are available in Fusion. He then devotes the rest of his book to the mechanics of game design and how they're handled in the program. If you want to export your game to a mobile platform, then don't worry - Brunner has you covered. The epilogue that he provides is essentially an introduction to Fusion's export function and the different mediums that it supports.

Overall, I found this book to be very useful. I may not know nearly as much about game design as Brunner might but that doesn't mean I'm intimidated by it. The key point that Brunner makes throughout the book is that game design can be a worthwhile hobby or even career if you have the drive to go along with it. Although the latest version of Fusion isn't available as a free download (as of this writing), I think that anyone who reads this book should purchase the full version if they're really adamant about creating games. Highly recommended.

The perfect book to start using Fusion for those game developers wannabes.

This book is a hands-on introductory guide to Clickteam fusion as a game development tool. It is intended for people that have not experience coding but aims to create a game at their own.

The book has a tutorial like style and comes with several examples in a complementary zip file downloadable from the packtpub website [...]
The book covers the basics of fusion user interface, how to create your first game, the fusion picture, frame and animation editor, how to treat with graphics, control event and movements, apply basic physics, collide detection, using extensions, define some AI to create enemy behaviors, create health and ammo bars, how to adapt to the right resolution of the screen, how to save the game score, how to add a soundtrack, and finally how to export your work for different platforms.

The most interesting aspect of this book is their clarity because it directly exposes how to do the thing and about the Fusion tool it really can help because its very intuitive and graphical so anybody can create an acceptable game with a very little effort.

However the book doesn't cover advanced settings as complicated physics. Nevertheless is a very good book and tool to those game developers wannabes.

This book is very good for both new and intermediate users of Clickteam Fusion 2.5

It covers the basic usage and then goes into some more advanced issues to get users to the next level of game development.
If you have seen some of authors game creations like Pitiri 1977 -- [...]
You know he is an expert user of the tool.
