Making Your Own Good Fortune

Expect Miracles : Recollections of a Lucky Life is a charming book from the stories of the growth of the aluminum industry to tales of investment in life, culture and capital. Through out the book, the reader finds that Culver, in reality, makes his own luck through his deep interest and appreciation of others. He then seizes this good fortune with a keen eye for the next possibility and persistence. These are lessons to be learned.

A fascinating and important book...

This is a surprising and fascinating read. David Culver has put together a compelling account of a life full of challenging adventures and big characters. He has acquired a great deal of wisdom and is generous about sharing it. At a time when it’s all too easy to be cynical about business and financial leaders driven by greed this book offers a welcome example of someone who achieved success by doing the right thing.
As a journalist who spent most of my career outside Canada I was struck by Culver’s clear-eyed view of the world. Anyone who cares about international affairs or who has an interest in developing business relationships abroad should read this book.
In addition his assessment of how Quebec and Canada have developed during his life make this book indispensable for anyone interested in contemporary Canadian history. The important players are all here in these pages and Culver seems to have a personal story about each one.
Culver has contributed greatly to the cultural life of Montreal. His love affair with the city permeates this book and should inspire others who want Montreal to take its proper place among the truly great cities of the world.

About the Author
Randall Peffer is the author of eight nonfiction books, most with a nautical angle, as well as nine crime/suspense novels. His first book, Watermen, is a documentary of the lives of the Chesapeake's fishermen. It won the Baltimore Sun’s Critic’s Choice Award and was Maryland Book of the Year. His novel Provincetown Follies, Bangkok Blues was a Lambda Award finalist and has been optioned for film by producer Barr Potter of Tripod Entertainment. The son of a career naval officer, Peffer holds a 100-ton masters license and has logged over one hundred thousand miles at sea, mostly in traditional working vessels. Peffer teaches writing and literature at Phillips Academy, Andover.

Very Good Coverage of all Aspects of U-550

Good overview of the battle and search that brought about the recovery. A lot of detail on each of the dive team, perhaps a bit too much. A great story in bringing together and covering activities that brought together members of former war adversaries between the US and Germany, both as a result of the dive team and what transpired earlier. Good photos.

I loved this book. It is full of interesting diving stories,and keeps the reader interested. It is well written and you do not need to be a diver to fully enjoy this book.The history,accounts , and the underlying story of how they prepared their search and executed it is impressive.

About the Author
Bruce F. Chorpita, Ph.D. is currently Professor of Psychology, at the University of California, Los Angeles. He received his Ph.D. in psychology from the University at Albany, State University of New York and held a faculty position with the Department of Psychology at the University of Hawaii from 1997 to 2008. From 2001 to 2003, Dr. Chorpita served as the Clinical Director of the Hawaii Department of Health's Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division. Dr. Chorpita is widely published in the areas of children's mental health services and childhood anxiety disorders, and he has held research and training grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, the Hawaii Departments of Education and Health, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

MATCH Therapist

I have been working as a Match Therapist just a little over 2 years now with the research project that has utilized the English version of Match-ADTC. I am amazed as to how much I have learned using the skills in this book and have proven a reliable source in helping my clients overcome their anxiety. I have not had the same opportunity to practice the other modules as well as the anxiety module but I am really excited to see the book in Spanish, especially since all my clients had Spanish speaking parents. Yey! No more fumbling my words as I look forward to receiving this Spanish copy. I highly recommend this book in Spanish and English as a pair as a tool to use in therapy with children and families. Thank you for the years of growth and consultation in learning this model Dr. Chorpita.
